According to preliminary reports of the incident, the diamond unit owner Jaysukh
Dobaria had reportedly lent Rs 2,000 to diamond polisher Mukesh Rathod.
The police said the supporters of both groups clashed when Dobaria went to the latter's place to collect his money. While the family members of Rathod, reportedly injured Dobaria and his supporters by throwing stones and sprinkling red chilly powder at them, the Rathods were allegedly assaulted by sharp weapons.
The injured persons have been identified as Dobaria, Rathod, Nanjibhai, Rathod's grandfather, and also his grandmother and wife and grandmother Chandrikaben and Jayaben. The police said while Dobaria received minor injuries, Rathod and his grandfather were seriously injured.
Dobaria runs a small diamond polishing unit in Savarkundla. His unit has been shut down since Diwali following a slump in the diamond industry.
According to sources, Dobaria had gone to Rathod's house with around 50 persons who were armed with sharp weapons. They said Rathods used red chilly powder and stones to retaliate the alleged attack by Dobaria and his supporters.
