New Delhi With a week to go for the 60th Republic Day, all Metro stations, important government buildings, airports and Samadhi Sthals have been put on high alert, with the deployment of additional CISF personnel and sniffer dogs.

Frequent anti-sabotage checks are conducted at Metro stations and the airport and all visitors to government buildings are frisked.

“Though there has been a high alert since Mumbai attacks, special provisions have been implemented before Republic Day. Metro Stations are sanitised regularly now, especially busy stations like Rajiv Chowk and Kashmere Gate,” CISF spokesperson Rohit Katiyar said.

“All vacant trains to and from the yard are escorted by CISF personnel. Though security personnel haven’t been increased at Metro stations — where approximately 1,650 CISF officers are deployed — we have extended working hours and deployed more forces during rush hours,” he said.

CCTV cameras are being closely monitored. “The coverage has been intensified, besides ensuring that they function properly and the footage is recorded,” Katiyar said. “Our spotters in civilian clothes have also been keeping a steady vigil. If we suspect a person, we profile him and ask for his ID card.”

The dog squads and quick response teams are also working overtime since a few weeks.
