However, the brawl in Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) late on Tuesday night turned ugly when a group of boys of hostel number 3 seriously wounded two of their mates.
The fight occurred around 11.30 pm when Kanwaldeep Singh and Gurjot Singh, students of BVSc II year, were sitting in the former’s room. A group of over twenty boys, allegedly led by Ajinder Gill, a BSc III year student, entered their room and beat them up with swords and sticks.
Nobody came to the rescue of the boys and it was only after the group left, the two were taken to the Civil Hospital. Kanwaldeep, who sustained deep cuts all over his body, is now admitted in Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMC) with 35 stitches on his back. Gurjot, who is admitted in the Orthopedics Department, sustained 12 stitches on his left forearm.
While both Kanwaldeep and Gurjot remained tightlipped about the reason behind the attack, sources said an old enmity between the two groups led to the fight. It was also revealed that the members of the group were in an inebriated condition.
While the university has forwarded the case to its Disciplinary Committee, no formal case has been registered because the doctors are yet to give the Medico Legal Report, said Joginderpal Singh, Kanwaldeep’s father.
Dr K S Sandhu, Director, Students Welfare GADVASU, was not available for comment.
