Rajkot A tribal woman was raped by four unidentified persons in Shedhupur village of Amreli district early Monday morning.

The labourer woman and her husband were also brutally assaulted by the accused who escaped with a cell phone after committing the crime.

Amreli rural police said the migrant couple was found tied to a wooden bed by the owner of the farm where they worked as labourers.

Both the injured have been shifted to Amreli hospital for treatment. The woman has also been subjected to a medical test.

“There have been cases of loot in rural areas, but this is gruesome in nature,” said the police.

Before fleeing, the four accused beat up the labourer and tied him to a wooden bed with a rope.

When his wife requested them to release him, they took her to a field and raped her one by one. Later, they tied her to the same bed, said the police.

According to the complaint registered with the police, three of the four men had masked their faces.

Help for the couple arrived only when the owner of the farm turned up later in the day.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the labourer woman was raped six times,” said the police.

The police are on the trail of the four men.
