Junagadh Residents of nearly half a dozen villages in Talala taluka in Junagadh district are experiencing a series of mild tremors for the last couple of days.

The villages where tremors of mild intensity have been felt include Hiranvel, Chitrawad, Haripur, Sangodra, Bhalchhel, Aambaliyala and Chitrod. Some 10 tremors have jolted these villages in the last 48 hours, said sources.

Amee Doshi, the taluka Mamalatdar, while confirming the tremors, said, “Mild tremors of less than 2.5 magnitude have been reported in six to seven villages in Talala taluka.”

She said: “The seismic activity has been reported during the last two days and the epicentre of the tremors is believed to be near Chitrod village, around 12 km from Talala town."

Doshi said, though no damage has been reported so far, but the people are nevertheless, frightened.

Sources said, many experts have visited the region and have carried out studies, but they have been unable to ascertain the exact reason behind the seismic activities.

Bhagvanjibhai, the sarpanch of Hiranwel village said: “The villagers are scared as they fear high intensity tremor might hit the region any time.”

According to sources, some “kachcha” houses have developed minor cracks because of the low intensity tremors in the region.

On Wednesday, the villagers had experienced six tremors between 5 am and 10 am. In the recent past, about 30 mild tremors have been felt, sources added.
