Ludhiana, January 5 Health Minister Lakshmi Kanta Chawla today clarified Health Ministry’s stand pertaining to the orders asking the ultra-sound scan centres to keep records of the patients by saying that it was not meant for emergencies and the emergency cases could be handled without having to furnish identity proof.

She, however, said, “It does not mean that the doctors treat every case as emergency. The orders asking the ultra-sound scan centres to keep records is in fact aimed at collecting the correct data so that we can track down those responsible for female feticide. Earlier, the people would supply wrong addresses and get away with the crime.”

Chawla was in city to attend the inaugural ceremony of “Bharat ko Jano” competition at Kundan Vidya Mandir today. While speaking about campaign against Hepatitis B that was recently started in the state, she said, “Hepatitis B is infact worse than AIDS in terms of its spread which is more by 40-100 per cent in some cases. Punjab is thereofore one of the 11 states in the country to begin this programme and we have already started it in Hoshiarpur and Roopnagar.” Health minister also clarified that the department of Ayurvedic would soon have its own director. “In the recently held cabinet meeting we have shortlisted seven eligible candidates for the post from 39 applicants.”
