According to state power minister Mrinal Banerjee, five units which had to be shut down, have started functioning again.
“The power units at Santaldih (210 MW), Sagardighi (250), Kolaghat (210), Bandel (210) and Bakreshwar (210) had been facing problems, but now that has been sorted out,” Banerjee said on Saturday.
West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd chairman M K Dey said, “Both the Durgapur Project Ltd and the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd were not functional.”
We were facing a shortfall of 400-600 MW, Dey said, adding, “We have been procuring power from Rajasthan to make up for the shortfall. Hopefully by Monday, one unit at PDCL will also start functioning.”
Students, meanwhile, said their preparation for examinations was hampered due to the load shedding. Rusha Sen, a student of La Martiniere for Girls, said: “It was very difficult to prepare for my exams in candle light. I hope the power situation will normalise soon.”
