Kolkata A minor fire broke out at the gynaecological ward of the SSKM hospital on Wednesday morning. The fire started at 9.15 am in the operation theatre. Though initially it was believed the fire was a result of a short circuit, later investigations revealed that it had started from a spark near the switch board, after which it spread to the false ceiling. It was soon brought under control by the fire service personnel.

“Thankfully, there was no major harm due to the fire. The sister-in-charge saw the fire and immediately informed the authorities who called the fire department,” said Debashish Bhattacharya, Medical Superintendent of the hospital.

The OT, however, had to be shifted out of the ward due to the fire.
