Khanna A nine-year-old girl was killed after being allegedly raped by an unidentified person at Bidhichand Colony at Mandi Gobindgarh on Saturday night.

Daughter of a migrant labourer Ram Milan, the victim, Meenu, had gone to attend a jagrata in the locality but did not return.

Her body with injuries was found in a nearby plot on Sunday morning.

A police party led by SSP Kaustabh Sharma reached the spot and started investigations. Though a case was registered, the police have failed to find any clue in the case.

SSP Kaustabh Sharma told Newsline, “We have interrogated a few residents of the locality and the people who attended the jagrata but we have not succeeded in getting any definite clue in the case. Some suspects are still being interrogated.”

According to information, Meenu had gone to attend the jagrata with her mother after which they both returned home. Meenu, however, went back after sometime. As she did not return in the night, her family members started searching for her. Meenu’s body was found in a nearby vacant plot on Sunday morning.

Police claimed she was first raped and then killed according to preliminary investigations.
