Vadodara A minor tiff between a ticket checker at a cinema hall and locals ensued into a communal tiff in Naswadi town of Vadodara district on Wednesday night. The situation, however, was brought back to normal soon after the police intervened.

According to a complaint lodged with the Naswadi police station, the incident took place at the Kismat Talkies. Complainant Minakshi Tadvi, who along with her husband Rakesh, went to watch the movie around 8 pm, has accused Mohammed Hanif Tai, Mazhar Tai, Sarfaraz Tai, Salim Tai and Javed of attempting to rape her.

The complainant said that when her husband and others, who were with them, tried to prevent her from the accused (all residents of Naswadi town), they were brutally beaten up with hockey sticks. She further accused them of passing “cast-related” remarks against them.

“The trouble erupted after the ticket checker demanded tickets from some local people. Being Uttarayan, the show was full, but some locals tried to sneak into the theatre without tickets,” said Naswadi police inspector C T Damor.

“Since the complainant has levelled the allegation of attempt to rape, we have included those sections (pertaining to this crime in the Indian Penal Code) in the FIR. But we are checking for the credibility of the claims,” he said, adding that the town was “absolutely peaceful” now.
