Ahmedabad The Navrangpura police on Thursday found the body of the Mehsana police constable from Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad. He had allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the river on Tuesday. “DilipValand's body was found floating near the Gandhi Bridge between 11.30 am and 12 noon,” said J M Desai, inspector at the Navrangpura police station where the official complaint of the case is filed. “It is a suicide case. He had jumped into the river after failing to catch Nirmalsinh, an undertrial,” said Desai.

Valand had reportedly gone missing on Tuesday night after having failed to chase Nirmalsinh, who was being taken to Mehsana from Rajkot.

Head constable Partita Prajapati, who was with them on Tuesday, had lodged a complaint of the undertrial absconding and Valand missing after the chase. The Navrangpura police started investigating the matter after an unidentified person informed the control room of Valand jumping into the river from the Nehru Bridge. The body was not found then, but the police had procured Valand's bag containing his I-Card, shawl, jacket, t-shirt and other belongings. The police are investigating the case further and tracing the phone records of both Valand and Prajapati.
