Ludhiana Terming his decision to switch sides a wrong move, Congress councillors today called Prem Mittal a traitor. Mittal, who was the leader of Opposition in the MC, joined the Shiromani Akali Dal today. Deputy leader of the general house of the MC Amrit Varsha Rampal, said: “He should not resign from his post because he won the election on a Congress ticket and has cheated his own ward.”

She added that since 1991, Mittal has been given key positions by the Congress and was also appointed as deputy mayor, senior deputy mayor and as leader of Opposition.

Many Congress councillors are being approached by the SAD to join their party.

Raju Thaper, spokesperson of the Congress councillors said: “Now, no councillor will join the SAD.” Sources, meanwhile, added that a few councilors have decided to help the SAD by remaining within the Congress.

At the moment, meanwhile, the Congress is looking for a new leader to replace Mittal. The leaders whose name can be considered for the post include: Amrit Varsha Rampal, Shyam Sunder Malhotra and others.
