Chandigarh, February 22 The Education Department had taken a decision to change government schools uniforms from the next academic session. This change in uniforms has met a mixed reaction from the school fraternity.

The DPI (schools), S K Setia, said, “We wanted to replace the white uniforms, as it was difficult to maintain. Moreover, white looks dull after some time.”

The Education Department would provide the school uniform for the students from Class I to Class V of all non-model government schools, as per government policy. The students meanwhile are a happy lot. Raghav, a class IX student at GMSSS Sector 23, said, “I am happy that our uniform is going to be changed from the next session. My mother will not scold me for coming home with dirty shirts.”

Raghav’s mother, Meenakshi Khanna also appreciated the introduction of the new uniform policy. She said, “Government schools should also have smart uniforms.” Raman, a student of GMSSS 18 said, “I think white was better and smarter.” His father, Munish Sharma was also unhappy, He said the move will add to our expenses in the new academic session.”
