The activist, Sainath Durge, says he, along with “another activist”, walked into a classroom posing as a professor and walked out with five answer-scripts. University officials claimed that the person seen with Durge was a senate member and Durge evaded suspicion because of his presence.

Durge says he entered examination department building where professors were assessing MCA first semester examination papers. “I entered the classroom at 1:15 pm and was accosted by a clerk. I told him I was a professor who had come to evaluate the answers. Without asking for any ID, the clerk gave me a bundle of 40 answer-sheets of the subject Principles of Economics and Management. I took out five answer-sheets, kept them in my bag and walked out,” says Durge.

“How can the university treat assessment work so lightly? Students’ careers and lives depend on marks they get. This ‘sting’ operation shows the university’s irresponsible behaviour.”

Durge sitting in the classroom with the answer-sheets was captured on a mobile phone, reportedly by the person who had accompanied him.

The university lodged an FIR on Saturday evening against both. The university alleged that the person who accompanied Durge was senate member Vaibhav Narwade. The university alleged that Narwade accompanied Durge into the classroom and therefore no one suspected any foul play. A university official who lodged the complaint said on condition of anonymity, “This is treachery. The security guards knew Narwade and believed him.  Durge accompanied Narwade and filled in the name of a professor from Vasant Dada Patil college who is one of the examiners. They believed Durge because he was with Narwade.”
