The incident took place when one Kuldip Trivedi was trying to start his Hero Honda CBZ motorcyle and a sudden spark came out of it. The piston burst due to the spark and the petrol tank caught fire. This led to the fire spreading to two other motorcycles parked nearby. Trivedi jumped off his mobike to save his life. When contacted, the Sayajigunj police said that no complaint had been registered so far in the incident.
Munind Dadhania, a student said, "As we heard of the incident, we came out of the SP Hall and parked other motorcycles at a safe distance. Some students brought buckets from their rooms and tried to douse the fire. We had brought the situation under control even before the fire brigade and police reached the spot.” There were a couple of motorcycles that got slightly damaged, he added.
Another student, Punit Kansagra, said, “Trivedi, a final year BBA student of MSU, is a day scholar and had come to the hostel to meet his friend. A Hero Honda Passion and a LML motorcyle were also charred in this fire incident.”
Sources in SP Hall said that despite the fact that the petrol tank of Trivedi's motorcycle was leaking, he had refilled it yesterday night, adding, that this could have led to the spark.
