Modi chalisa immortalises CM as an avataar of dharma

Ahmedabad, January 2 After the spectacular electoral win in the recent Assembly elections, it is now time for some serious deification of Narendra Modi in Gujarat. Like Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar, Modi too now has a chalisa written in his name or rather in his honour, so to say, albeit for reasons, which Modi himself would much rather have buried.

Ramesh Misra, a mobile shop owner in Vastral has come up with a video CD "Gujarat Kranti " complete with Modi aarti, chalisa, prarthana and sanedo. The songs composed by Misra along with the visuals strongly justify the violence of 2002 and lauds Modi saying, " Tum saman nahin koi valshali/ karat tumhi santan rakhwali" (None is mightier than you/ you protect the sants).

The VCD shows visuals from the Godhra train carnage with people from the minority community attacking the karsevaks and burning the train. "Roki rel jab tel vahava/ dehi dasha kampan hiya aava/ aag lagai hatata nar dushtha/ Godhra mahi bhaya vidha rustha" (when they stopped the train and poured oil on it, tears welled up in the eyes. The crooks set fire and killed people. In Godhra, God was angry). The chalisa then says "dushtha harata vahu betan laja" (the rogues violate the wives and daughters), finally justifying the subsequent pogrom with the phrase, "Tin vinashana maran jayee/ tinki hanek kachhu paap na hoi" (Killing them is no sin).

Hailing Modi as an avataar of dharma (religion), the prarthana adds, "Adig achal tum rahjo/ saunu bhalo karjo/ dhama vijayee Gujraatke naam amar karjo" (May you stay stable and steady and do good for everyone and immortalise the name of Gujarat).

Misra who hails from Jaunpur in UP, however, now wants to play this down. "Halat kaise ho gaya tha aap jante hain," (You know how the things were) he says. "I wrote all that but now I don't want any trouble," he adds. He says it is this fear only that kept him away from meeting Modi in his campaign meeting at Khokra circle at Maninagar.

"No I have not met Modi, and I do not have any affiliation with the BJP. But I have attended some meetings of Modi, though never met him. He is in my heart so that's all right," he says.

He says he has been writing poems since his childhood, but after coming to Gujarat some 17 years back, he stopped writing, and took it up again after attending some religious meetings during the Godhra carnage. "The incident moved me and I started writing again. But I didn't know that it would come out so well," he says, adding, that though the writing was over long time back, the production process of the CD got complete only after the declaration of the election results.
