Gandhinagar, January 3 Chief Minister Narendra Modi is not going to the Davos meet of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland later this month. A tight schedule that involves ministry formation and budget session of the Assembly is said to be the official reason behind the decision to cancel the much-hyped visit.

In the aftermath of Modi’s visit to the WEF at Dalian in China, last September, his official publicity machinery had announced that an invite had come his way from the elite forum for its annual Davos meet this year. This was followed by a controversy as the organisers distanced themselves from the invite, making it incumbent on Modi’s return to power post the Assembly polls.

The CM’s Dalian visit too had become an issue with industrialists accompanying him complaining of fatigue with Modi’s regular jaunts abroad.

While the invite has been confirmed, the delay in his cabinet formation has left little time for Modi to prepare for the summit, say officials in the know of the development.

“It would have been a great opportunity to showcase Gujarat at the prestigious event. But with the kind of engagements the CM has it was never going to happen,” said a senior official.
