Ahmedabad Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the renovated police station in his constituency, Maninagar, in the city on Thursday. The Rs 88.67-lakh swanky police station is spread over an area of 1,642 square metres.

The building has been funded by the state police housing board and furnished by local donors. It has 21 rooms and two lock ups.

What makes this station different from others is a

visitors’ space with a comfortable lounge near its reception office and gymnasium and yoga centres for the staff.

The walls around the visitors’ space have been decorated with enlarged photographs of the recent Kankaria carnival and other picturesque locations in and around the city.

In what may be a first of its kind initiative, the staff of this police station will be evaluated on the basis of their dressing and presentation. There are two display boards at a prominent location in the building for photographs and names of “the cop with the best turn out” and “the cop of the week”. “No other police station in the state is as people friendly as this one,” said G K Parmar, Joint Commissioner of Police (Sector 2).

City-based Bahusmarna Construction has renovated the building. “The state police housing board has financed the building construction and some of the furniture and accessories have been donated to us,” said Inspector P J Trivedi.

Modi also inaugurated a 24x7 Police Control Room (PCR) van service in the police station.

Making available fully equipped PCR van for immediate response from all police stations in the city is an ambitious project of the city police.

“Soon, all police stations in the city will have such PCR van,” Trivedi added.
