Ahmedabad, January 3 Chief Minister Narendra Modi has written two letters in a span of two days to PM Manmohan Singh seeking the Centre’s full support to all Non-Resident Indians (NRI), most of them of Gujarati origin, stuck up in the Kenyan civil strife. Among other things, Modi has sought assistance in finding out if there have been any NRI casualties. “The CM has also requested that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) make immediate provisions for quick visas and extra flights for those Indians wishing to leave Kenya and return to India,” said an official in the CMO. The PM has assured Modi that the government is taking steps to ensure safety of Indians in the troubled country. At the Gujarat government level, former revenue minister Kaushik Patel has been asked to monitor the situation closely. “I am in touch with the community leaders there. The trouble is in some rural pockets in the Kisumu region and not in Nairobi as such. There is no report of any casualty,” Patel said.
