Gandhinagar, January 1 Governor Nawal Kishore Sharma has cleared Friday, January 4, as the day for swearing in of Ministers to be included in the Narendra Modi government. On returning from a holiday, Sharma accepted a request here on Tuesday, initiating the General Administration Department into frenzied activity for the ceremonial preparations, to be held at the sprawling lawns of the Assembly complex at around 9 am.

Sources in the Chief Minister's Office have said that the exercise would see a small number of about a dozen ministers of cabinet and state ranks taking oaths. An expansion has been planned in the future. "Between 10 and 15 junior and senior ministers will be inducted into the Cabinet, for now," said a source. However, some party sources have said the list could go up to 18. Many new faces, apart from the seniors in the hierarchy are likely to take oath, they said.

From the seniors Vajubhai Vala, Ashok Bhatt, Anandiben Patel, Narottam Patel, and Mangubhai Patel are likely to be re-nominated, though Vala's name is also being discussed for the post of Speaker.

Ministers of State Amit Shah, Saurabh Patel, Jaswantsinh Bhabhor, and Parsottam Solanki are likely to be repeated from the outgoing Ministry. Of the likely new faces in the third Modi team, the names of Dilip Sanghani, Leeladhar Vaghela, Vasan Ahir, Pankaj Desai, Jitu Sukhadia, and Vasuben Trivedi are also being discussed.

Also probable is the inclusion of at least one from those who had lost the 2002 elections, which includes the likes of Nitin Patel, Jainarayan Vyas, and Fakirbhai Vaghela. Of these, Patel has a greater chance over the latter two owing to their late acceptance of Modi as the supremo. Bharat Barot and Pradipsinh Jadeja are likely candidates for the post of chief whip in the Assembly.
