Chandigarh, February 27 A Mohali resident, Dheeraj Khanna (36), died in a hit-and-run accident at the Sector 43-44 dividing road on Wednesday morning. Khanna, who was on a scooter, was hit by a Maruti Zen which sped away from the site after the incident.

He was rushed to General Hospital, Sector 16, where doctors declared him “dead on arrival”. After the postmortem, the body was handed over to Khanna’s family. The deceased was employed with a private company in Chandigarh and is survived by his wife and three children.

A case of rash and negligent driving causing death has been registered at Police Station-36 against the unidentified car driver. According to the police, the speeding car rammed into the scooter from behind and sped away. “We are trying to trace the car and its driver. Without knowing the registration number, it becomes difficult to trace the vehicle. However, we are in the process of talking to eyewitnesses and verifying if anyone noted the registration number of the car,” said Inspector Devinder Sharma, SHO, PS-36.
