After the incident had come to light on Sunday, the locals had alleged that a builder planning a slum rehabilitation authority (SRA) scheme in the slum was responsible for the alleged murder, leading to tension in the area.
Patil, who also holds charge of the home portfolio, said a second post mortem of the body would be conducted and the viscera of the deceased would be preserved. He said barring minor incidents, Mumbai was calm on Monday and rejected the opposition’s demands for a CID inquiry saying that a police official of the rank of a joint commissioner of police would investigate the matter.
Meanwhile, demanding a CID inquiry, Leader of the Opposition Ramdas Kadam (Shiv Sena) also sought Patil’s resignation. Kadam questioned how the state government could ensure the safety of common citizens when it was unable to protect a monk.
