Monu’s knock takes Godrej CC to victory

Chandigarh, January 5 A splendid batting performance by Monu Khera (76 not out) enabled Godrej CC to defeat Pace Club-32 by 55 runs in a league match of the ongoing second T R Mittal Memorial Cricket Tournament, being organised by Chandigarh Sports Club at GMSSS-32, here today.

Batting first Godrej CC openers put up a partnership of 32 runs in 7.1 overs. Thereafter, Monu Khera put up some fruitful partnerships with the other batsmen of the team and finished the innings at 76 n.o.. His innings was studded with 9 fours and 2 sixes. He was supported by Vaneet Chawla at the other end who made 36 runs. Ishan Ali was the pick of the bowlers scalping 2 wickets in 5 overs. The Godrej CC managed to put up a total of 179 runs on the board in the stipulated 25 overs.

In reply, the Pace Club-32 had a shaky start as they lost their first wicket in the fourth over itself with just 13 runs on the board. None of the batsmen could stay at the crease for a long time as their wickets fell at regular intervals. Amanpreet (46 n.o.) and Neeraj Kumar (32), were the only batsmen who offered some resistance to the tight bowling of the bowlers of Godrej CC. Tej Gobind took 3 wickets.Vijay Pal and Naresh Dhingra bowled economically giving just 19 and 22 runs in their 5 overs . Pace Club-32 was bundled for 124 runs in 23.5 overs.

GN Khalsa eves clinch softball title
GN KHALSA College for Women Ludhiana clinched the Panjab University Inter-College Softball title beating GGS College for Women Chandigarh 3-2 at the PU grounds here on Saturday.
In another match, GN Girls College Ludhiana got the better of MCM DAV College Chandigarh to secure third place.
