After the US, the UK and Israel sent their investigative teams to Mumbai, several other nations, whose citizens were killed in the 26/11 attacks, want to make their own inquiries as well.

Highly placed sources revealed to Newsline today that the Mumbai Police Crime Branch, the investigating agency in the case, recently received requests to share information with German, Singaporean and Japanese investigating authorities. Their teams want to visit the city for making enquiries about their citizens killed in the attack.

“The consulates of Germany, Singapore and Japan contacted us and stated that their police teams wanted to visit the city to gather information and carry out investigations relating to cases registered in their respective countries regarding their citizens who were killed in the attacks,” said a source.

“The consulates were informed that the Mumbai Police did not have the authority to grant them the request on their own, and that they should contact the Ministry of External Affairs. In all likelihood, police teams from these three nations will be here in a week or two,” the source added.

According to sources, a team from the Federal Criminal Police Office is due to visit the city to investigate the deaths of German nationals Jugran Heinz Schmidt (68), Dapane Schmidt (50) and Ralph Buruei (51). A police team from Singapore will be here to probe the death of Low Hawai Yen (27), while a team from the Criminal Investigation Department of Japan’s National Police Agency wants to look into the death of T Tsuda Bilasi (41).

Twenty-six foreign nationals were killed in the attacks.
