Pune, February 22 In order to provide speedy solutions to complaints related to electricity billing and meters, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has recently introduced a single-window complaint registration and redressal system at nine divisional offices in the city. Under the system, MSEDCL consumers can either telephone the official concerned and lodge a complaint or go to the divisional office in person. However, they can do so only during the official working hours — between 10 am and 5 pm.

“The system has been introduced to bring about quick solutions to various problems faced by electricity consumers. The complaints can be regarding anything, including new electricity connections, monthly bills or a change in the name of the meter owner. Complaints can even be regarding the misbehaviour of staff. Once registered, these complaints would be solved within a maximum period of a week,” said MSEDCL chief engineer, Pune, Rameshsinh Gautam, when contacted.

A senior official from Shivajinagar division said, “Until now, people used to register all kinds of complaints at the call centre or at the subdivision offices of the MSEDCL. Now, people can directly lodge complaints at the divisional level. However, this system is not meant for registering complaints regarding power failures, power cuts or trips, but is exclusively for complaints regarding billing, metering and other technical things.” The officials said that this system will bring quick solutions and with this, it is easy to keep a tab on complaints lodged at the subdivision level as well.

Rude Behaviour by Felix D'souza on 04 Jul 2011

I the undersigne had gone to get a duplicate bill at the NITIE office of MSEDLC where I was first and formost informed by Ms. Sunita Borade to come the next day. When I approached the Senior Officer Mr.Patil he interviened and asked that the duplicate bill to be given immediately. At this Ms. Borade was very angry and in her very uncouth language spoke to me that it was useless going to the higher ups as she was the one who had the authority and she was not afraid of anyone. Another officer came to my rescue and provided me with a duplicate bill. The tone and Language used by Ms Borade to a senior citizen ws very unbecoming a a public servant. If a senior citizen is treated in this fashion I pity those who are uneducated and have to face such a situation. In my presence also there were two other women who had come for duplicate bills who were spoken to very harsly by Ms. Borade. Strict action should be taken against this person so as the good name of the MSEDLC IS NOT TARNISHED. Felix
