The daylong session had HR (Human Resource) experts from Siemens, Adani Group, Personnel Decisions International Private Limited, Management guru Prof Rooshikumar Pandya as well as PRS Permacel Private Ltd from Mumbai.
While some experts said panic is abuzz in the market but as such there is no wide freeze on hiring, they agreed that hiring sentiments have been affected. Some experts said there is a section of organisations in urban areas that have been hit by the meltdown.
Rajesh Shrivastav, a Mumbai-based business strategist told Newsline, "India is divided into two sectors: urban and rural. While there is some impact on the urban sector, rural sector is still growing."
Citing the example of Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector scenario, Shrivastav said: "FMCGs in the urban sector have somewhat felt the impact, but there has been a rise in demand in the rural sector. Even as there are some sectors that have been affected, there should be some humane way to deal with it."
Shrivastav again cited the example when US soldiers returning home had fewer job options. They were therefore given the option for further studies. This is where human resource skills are actually tested, he said, adding that when an organisation is in crisis, it should cut the salary of an employee rather than sacking him/her.
