A self-evaluation report is almost on the verge of completion by a committee appointed by the university. However, there are several issues, which remain unresolved such as introducing teaching programmes at the Department of Physical Education, increasing the capacity of Halls of Residence, which is bursting out of its seems as well as teacher-student ratio in popular faculties such as Commerce and Arts.

University authorities said there has been a delay on the university’s part in missing the deadline. Vice-Chancellor

Professor Ramesh Goyal said, “A committee has been formed and it is expected to complete its report in 15 days. The NAAC committee is expected to come in next four months.”

NAAC is an autonomous body of UGC, which evaluates academic excellence and through accreditation. It helps institutions know their strengths, weaknesses and opportunities. The accreditation also helps employers to get information on the quality of education received by the passouts.

Over 100 departments in 13 faculties and three institutes will be screened for their academic and administrative excellence. The five-star rating will define the standard and quality of academics. Similar pattern of evaluation has been adopted by the foreign universities.

A member from the committee said: “In 2001, MSU got one below the best star from NAAC. The reason that the committee had pointed out was the student-teacher ratio in the Commerce and Arts faculty is awry. Despite that, MSU has such a big campus and it is one of the biggest residential campus, it was rated with institutions whose infrastructure was comparatively very small.”
