Kolkata Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Sunday said that his party is ready to become a part of the UPA government if Trinamool Congress walks out of the alliance.

“Yes, it is true,” Yadav replied when mediapersons asked whether his party had told the Congress that it was ready to join the ruling alliance if Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool withdrew its support to the UPA.

“We want stability and prosperity of the country. We also want to keep communal forces away. In fact, our support to the UPA government is issue-based and only to keep the communal forces at bay,” Yadav said at a press conference in Kolkata.

Yadav also played down reports of differences with the Left parties that emerged during the recent Lok Sabha session over cut motions.

“Our relationship with the Left is as friendly as it has been before. We have jointly conducted a number of programmes and taken several decisions together,” said Yadav.

He, at the same time, criticised the Centre on several issues, including UPA government’s policies on tackling Maoists.

“This issue (Naxal menace) cannot be solved by guns and sticks. They have some valid demands and should be resolved by discussion in consultation with all all parties,” he said.

At the end of his party’s three-day executive meet, Yadav said there was no possibility of former general secretary Amar Singh’s return to the Samajwadi Party.

“Neither will he come to us nor will we accept him. That chapter is closed,” said the SP chief.

The SP has fielded two candidates in the Kolkata civic polls with the support of the Left Front. Meanwhile, Kironmoy Nanda, whose party merged with the SP, has been given the charge of party in West Bengal.

best yadav bet with his limitation. by ASHIM KUMAR CHATTERJEE on 24 May 2010

IF UP IS THE WAY TO POWER IN DELHI AND IF YADAVS INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY SHOW NO PROMISE TO DIMINISH MAYA ASCENT, MULAYAM CANNOT HOPE TO HAVE SONIA AND RAHUL ON HIS SIDE AND BE PERCEIVED AS OPPORTUNISTS. LET HIM NOT BE ENTHUSED BY BENGAL TAMASHA. THAT IS A MERE TEST OF PERFORMENCE IN A TRIANGULAR FIGHT. IF LEFT IS DEFEATED IN IT CONG ANF TMC SHALL KNOW THEIR OWN REAL STRENGTH AND DESIGN A STRATEGY FOR STATE ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. IN A SITUATION WHERE CONGRESS IS LIKELY TO FACE DIFFICULTIES IN CASTE INFESTED UP POLITICS, THE ROUTE TO CONG CONSOLIDATION MAY BE THROUGH NON HINDI SPEAKING STATES. CONGRESS SHOULD BE INTERESTED IN CONTAINING BJP IN HINDI SPEAKING STATES OF BIHAR AND UP AND RECAPTURE RAJASTHAN, HARYANA, MP , HP AND CHHATTISGARH, WHICH QUITE A DOABLE WITHOUT YADAVS. BEST THING YADAV'S CAN DO IS TO HAVE ELECTORAL ADJUSTMENTS IN BIHAR AND UP TO HELP CONG IMPROVE AND THEN SHARE THE BOUNTY.
