Ambala Haryana Congress chief says ready to take the plunge if party permits

Haryana Congress chief Phool Chand Mullana has expressed his willingness to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections from the Ambala constituency, “if the party high command permits him”. Mullana was addressing a press conference at his Ambala City residence today.

He said the party leadership had sought the names of candidates who had been loyal to the party and had chances of winning, adding, in a veiled reference to present Congress MP Selja, that the anti-incumbency factor would be taken into consideration while deciding the candidate. At present, Ambala is represented by Union Minister of State Kumari Selja.

She has repeatedly said in the past that she would seek the election for second time. In reply to another question, he said that expansion in the Haryana cabinet was also on the cards. He, however, denied that he would join the cabinet.

Criticising the Opposition, he said that all the opposition parties had lost credibility. “The Haryana Janhit Congress has proved to be a non-starter and its leaders are coming back to the Congress,” he said.

He also termed the alliance between INLD and BJP as a “non-starter”.

As for the BSP, he said, the dalits were disillusioned with the party and its supremo Mayawati, who had been accumulating wealth through foul means. Mullana praised the Hooda government and said it had kept all its promises till now.
