Vadodara The Mumbai Crime Branch is aiding the Vadodara police in investigating the recently busted scam of fake certificates of the National Institute of Management (NIM).

Sayajigunj Inspector D L Zala said all institutes listed under its umbrella are now under the scanner. This also includes the trust that runs the institutes across 12 branches in the country.

Forensic Science Laboratory officials are now scanning the accounts of the two branches, which were sealed on December 22.

Zala said that Chairman Abhishek Dhariwal and national head, Narendra Khanna who are in Pune, will also be questioned on the issue.

Meanwhile, the Sayajigunj police have taken the accused, former ABVP leader Kaushal Dave to Mumbai for further probe.

Meanwhile, Ashraf Khan, the franchisee of NIM has been evading arrest and has been declared wanted.

Incidentally, the ISO certification displayed by the institute to lure the students, has also turned out to be fake, said an officer.

The institute was allegedly selling all sorts of degree certificates to erring students for Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 without offering any course or without conducting any exams.

The city police have now notified their counterparts in 12 other cities, including Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Bhopal, Ranchi, Mysore, Amritsar, Patiala, Jalandhar and Ludhina where NIM has been running these courses for the past two years.

Worried students and their parents are now planning to file a case against the trust. “We have no choice but to get our money back. They have cheated us and also the companies that recruit the students,” said a student on condition of anonymity.
