Mumbai Suburban supreme

Mumbai, March 1 Mumbai Suburban amassed 307 points to emerge the champion district in the Maharashtra State Sub Junior Athletic Championships 2008, organised by the Mumbai Suburban District Athletic Association, at the Andheri Sports Complex on Friday.

Thane finished second with 290 points, while Mumbai City were third with 217 points. Joshua Barretto of Mumbai Suburban clinched the individual boys' under-14 championship, while Varun Taneja of Thane claimed the boys' under-12 honours.

Nirmayee Prabhu of Mumbai City was the girls' under-14 individual champion, while Akshaya Iyyer of Thane bagged the girls' under-12 title.

Little Vishakha Upadhayay of Mumbai Suburban was the girls' under-8 champion after helping herself to an impressive three gold medals.

Kshitij Bhoite of Thane won the boys under-10 100m in 13.5 secs, while Yash Zad and Anand Patel of Mumbai Suburban finished second and third, respectively, in a keen contest. Vishakha Upadhayay clinched her third gold of the meet after winning the girls under-8 100m in 16.3 secs.
