Ahmedabad Sunil Gupta, an inmate of Rajkot jail, allegedly escaped from the premises of Metropolitan court in Gheekantha on Tuesday afternoon. A resident of Ahmedabad, Gupta was arrested on charges of a murder three years ago and was lodged in Rajkot jail ever since.

“He had been brought to the Metropolitan court in connection with a murder in Vatva in 2006,” said Inspector K S Savani of Karanj police.

When he was being taken back to Rajkot, Gupta allegedly roughed up two policemen who were escorting him back to the police van and fled from the fifth floor of the court building. The police are looking for him. “The role of an assistant sub-inspector and a constable, who were with Gupta, is also under scanner. If found guilty, the duo will be booked for negligence,” Savani added.
