Murder: Corporator, aide remanded in custody

Pune Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Girish Deshpande on Friday remanded Congress corporator Anil Jadhav (48) and Kapil Jhumbarlal Bafna (26) in police custody for their involvement in the murder of one Vikas More (25) of Laxminagar. He was found murdered near Punyalaxmi Society early on Friday morning.

The police are still on the trail of one Durgesh alias Tadya Jadhav, Shakti Gujar, Sagar Babar and Surabh Avghade in connection with the crime.

According to the remand report submitted by Dilip Chougule, Police Inspector of Dattawadi police, More and Jadhav, a PMC corporator, had a long standing rivalry after More was elected as the chairman of Pune Rahavasi Sangh Ganpati Mandal last year.

Around 1.30 am on Friday, five-six people attacked More with sharp weapons and killed him. The crime occurred opposite the playground of Hire High School in Laxminagar.

The police arrested Jadhav and Bafna on Friday itself on the basis of a complaint filed by More’s wife. A case was registered against Jadhav and his accomplices under Section 302 (murder) and other relevant sections of the IPC.

The duo was produced in the court on Friday afternoon. Public prosecutor RD Parmar said Bafna and his accomplices Jadhav, Gujar, Babar and Avghade had murdered More at the behest of Jadhav.

The police sought the custody of the accused to recover the weapons used in the crime.

Parmar said the police have to interrogate Jadhav and Bafna to trace their absconding co-accused.

The clothes that the accused wore on the day of the crime are yet to be recovered.

The police have taken finger prints, hair and blood samples of the accused for investigation. The accused have been remanded till Tuesday.
