Kharar The murder case of 20-year-old, Harpreet, of Kailon village in Kharar took a sensational turn on Tuesday with the arrest of his sister, identified as Gurpreet Kaur, on the charge of conspiring with the main accused. Gurpreet, in her early 20s, was arrested following the statement of Harpreet’s cousin, Gurwinder Singh alias Guri, who was arrested on March 7, Kharar Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Dalbeer Singh said.

The SHO said Gurpreet had married a resident of Sector 44 in Chandigarh on February 14.

Guri, who is in police custody till March 12, revealed during interrogation that Gurpreet was aware of Harpreet’s murder plan, which they had discussed before executing, the SHO said.

Gurpreet, who has been arrested under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, will be put under sustained interrogation to unravel the conspiracy, the SHO added. Though the police are yet to confirm, the investigations conducted so far had raised the suspicion of “illicit relations” between the arrested cousins, said Kharar Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raj Balwinder Singh Marar.

Preliminary investigations also hinted that the arrested cousins had plans to marry after the murder to jointly “grab” the prime property worth almost Rs 25 crore owned by Harpreet’s parents.

Guri had confessed to killing Harpreet and throwing his body into Sirhind Canal on January 20. While his motorcycle has been recovered, the body of Harpreet has not been found yet, the SHO said.
