Patiala Punjabi University will raise a “commemorative music garden” on its campus to cherish and sustain the memory of noted musicians and music scholars of Punjab, who have done the state proud with their contribution to music.

Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh declared this while presiding over a commemorative function organised by the Department of Gurmat Sangeet to pay homage to renowned Sikh classical vocalist, Padma Shri Sardar Sohan Singh of Agra Gharana.

As a first step in the direction, the V-C planted a sapling in the front lawns of the Gurmat Sangeet Bhawan in the name of Sardar Sohan Singh, who was a professor in the university for over three years.

“Musical evenings should be organised on the lines the Aligarh Muslim University where they constitute a culture of their own,” The Vice-Chancellor said.
