Vadodara, March 6 The Narmada canal on the outskirts of the city has become a virtual death trap for area residents. After the recovery of another body from the canal, civic fire officials said that four such cases have been reported from the Panchvati locality in the recent past.

Nearly a fortnight ago, a 50-year-old woman drowned in the canal. The Wadi Wadi fire station head, Deepak Kumar Gunjal, said that the lack of a protective embankment around the canal and quick flow of the canal waters results in these tragedies. Gunjal said, “Recently, a labourer carrying cement bags drowned in the canal.”

The strong force of canal current can be ascertained from the recent incident, when the body of a girl from Waghodia was also found in the Gorwa area.
