“I have just been given this portfolio. As I am new to this job, I wanted to meet senior police officials including Police Commissioner Hassan Gafoor and make myself updated on several issues,” said Khan when he visited the headquarters on Saturday evening.

“My priority will be to ensure a higher level of security in Mumbai and provide the Mumbai Police whatever resources are necessary. I will also try to bridge the gap between the public and the police and change certain misconceptions the public have about the police force,” said Khan.

Asked about the news that Minister of State for Home Nitin Raut had expressed his desire to resign following the splitting of his portfolio, Khan said, “I have not heard anything of this sort. There is no rift inside the Congress party. We all work according to the directions from Sonia Gandhi. We are all united.”
