Kolkata In order to enhance cyber security at the IT hub in West Bengal, NASSCOM will help set up a Wi-Fi protection cell in Kolkata. Till now, cyber threats were managed by the companies individually.

NASSCOM will form a panel of experts soon with the help of IT companies housed in Sector-V of Saltlake. It will also include officials from the Kolkata police.

Kalyan Kar, managing director of Acclaris (India), said: “There are cases of cyber attacks in Sector-V, many of them are not reported. We have decided to tackle it collectively this time.” While NASSCOM will provide expertise to form such a cell, industry players in Saltlake will provide hardware support.

The decision to form such a cell was taken at a meeting today to discuss security measures in Sector-V of Saltlake after an IT professional was abducted from there and released against ransom.

“We have decided to set up a few taxi booths in the locality so that details of the taxis can be recorded. We will ask all companies in the area to inform their staff to avail taxis only from such booths,” he said.

The police outpost at Sector-V will also be upgraded into a full-fledged police station. The police station will keep a record of every car plying in the region. “The record will be kept for a month,” Kar said.

Nabadiganta Industrial Township development Authority has also decided to increase the number of surveillance cameras to 20 from the present six. “This will cover all entry and exit points in the IT hub stretched over more than 432 acres,” said an official.

Apart from that all buildings in the IT-hub will have metal detector gates and close circuit cameras to ensure round-the-clock surveillance.
