Being held under the aegis of the Indian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (IAAVP), over 150 delegates from across the country and abroad have registered for the conference.
The theme of this year’s conference is ‘National Impact of Parasitic Diseases on Livestock Health and Production’ with a focus on ‘Changing Trends in Parasitology from Eggs to Genomics’.
Renowned scientist Dr P N Bhat, who was the chief guest on the occasion, inaugurated the meet while Dr V K Taneja, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU presided over the function. Dr Bhat is former DDG (Animal Science) ICAR, Chairman of the task force on animal biotechnology and Chairman of the World Buffalo Trust.
Four retired professors from the department of Veterinary Parasitology, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU were honoured for their contribution to the field of veterinary parasitology.
The society also admitted scientists Professor M B Chhabra from New Delhi and Dr P K Sanyal from Chhattisgarh as national fellows. Dr K M L Pathak, IAAVP president and director, National Research Centre on Camel, Bikaner, also addressed the gathering.
Dr Bhat highlighted the impact of parasitic diseases on the economy of a country.
Dr Sarman Singh from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, delivered the keynote address at the conference. He compared the conventional techniques with microarrays and described it as providing a tool for diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical management of an infectious disease.
