Natl equestrian meet ends on high note

Kolkata, March 2 The National Equestrian Championship, Army Championship and the 56th Kolkata Horse Show, hosted by one of India’s most renowned and prestigious horse riding schools in the country — Fort William Riding Institute — ended on a high note last weekend with a series of events, which included Tent Pegging Lance (Group), Successive Relay Senior, Six Bar Open, Juniors & Seniors and Show jumping.

In addition to professional experienced equestrians, there was an overwhelming response from civilians riders who took part at this event especially children, both Fort William Riding Institute and Tollygunge Club.

Participants of all levels and age groups who competed in this “equestrian extravaganza” who showcased their equestrian skills in events like Dressage, Tent Pegging, Show Jumping and Cross Country. Several kids as young as 8 years old and young women, from both Tollygunge Club and FWRI, participating at this event in events like dressage, hacks and show jumping, it is clear that such events are no longer confined to army.

This premier competition was a huge success for the Fort William Riding Institute in Kolkata who are committed to encourage and promote equestrian sports in Eastern Region.

Army Equestrian Championship:

Dressage Preliminary: (Individual): First and Second Place: Capt Rahul Dagar, ASC, Third Place: Capt Amit Sinsinwar, Northern Command.

Dressage Preliminary (Team): Col S S Ahlawat, Capt Rahul Dagar & Capt Amit Sinsinwar, ASC (Blue).

Successive Relay (Prelim and Novice): First Place: Ris Gulab Singh and Swr Shantanu Kumar, RTS & D, Saharanpur, Second Place: Lt Col Jyoti Dhawan & Sep Zalem Singh, FWRI.

Tent Pegging Lance (Individual): First Place: CHM Jitender Singh, ASC C&C, Second Place: Lt Col Jyoti Dhawan, FWRI who tied with Major Vivek Rehni, Nk Shinde RT & Sep Ram Niwas - all ASC Centre (N).

Kolkata Horse Show:

Show Jumping (Prelim): 1. Dfr S Poonia, RVC, 2. Ct T P Joshi, BSF, 3. Lt Col Jyoti Dhwan, FWRI.

Six Bar Open Juniors: First & Second Place: Fayiqa Halim, FWRI, Third Place: Riddhima “Mishthi” Kumar, FWRI and Adhiraj Neel Mukherjee of Tollygunge Club.

Six Bar Open Seniors: First Place: Maj Salim Pathan (Armed), Second Place: L/Nk Lakhbir Singh, Third Place: Dy Comdt. Tejpal Daber, Capt D. Swittens, Capt A. Sinsinwar.

Tent Pegging Lance (Team):

First: BSF ‘A’, Second: Kolkata Mounted Place, Third: BSF ‘B’.
