Emphasising upon the need of crop rotation and diversification to horticulture and vegetables for a better yield, he said farmers should come forward for the use of better and latest technology by adopting the latest agricultural implements. Awarding best researchers and workers of the plant breeding department of the university for their work in their respective fields during a one-day seminar on “Crop Improvement Scenario in Field Crops: Success and Challenges” held in the campus, Dr Katyal said they have great challenges ahead. The seminar was attended by scientists involved in conducting research and dissemination of newer technology.
On this occasion, Dr Dhiraj Singh, while presenting the annual report of the department of plant breeding, revealed that during the preceding year, the department developed 13 high-yielding and disease-resistant varieties of different cereal crops. Currently, he said the scientists have achieved good results in wheat and barley crops. The V-C honoured workers of the department by presenting them with certificates of appreciation.
