He said the balance of crop nutrients is better in districts such as Bhiwani, Rewari as compared to high fertiliser consumption areas of Karnal and Yamunanagar.
The agriculture scientists urged the farmers to use the fertilisers judiciously, go for regular soil testing and diversification of horticulture crops in order to get a better yield.
Apart from urea, zinc sulphate, inputs such as sulphur, manganese, iron, boron are also required in the fields, they said. Expressing concern over the limited availability of these inputs, the farmers demanded adequate availability of quality fertilisers.
HAU soil scientist Dr R S Antil said the total annual crop removal of plant nutrients is much more than the total nutrient addition leading to the depletion of the soil fertility. He advocated the use of integrated nutrient management. Dr R P Narwal, Prof and acting head of the host department of soil sciences said the micronutrient deficiency in Haryana has increased over the years. Most of the legume, fodder and oilseed crops need application of inputs. Dr Mohinder Singh underlined the need of conducting more research on fertiliser recommendation on cotton crop.
