Negligence strikes twice in one day

Chandigarh An eight-year old girl died after she fell from a rashly driven autorickshaw on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place on the dividing road of Sector 18/ 21 when the auto suddenly applied brakes to the speeding auto, resulting in the girl falling out of the autorickshaw. The deceased has been identified as Archana, a class III student of the junior wing of the Government Model School, Sector 16, who was seated next to the open part in the auto. The police have arrested Rampyare, driver of the autorickshaw, for causing death due to negligence based on the statement of a Maloya resident Rakesh Kumar, an eyewitness who runs a cycle shop near the accident spot.

The victim’s father is employed as a clerk in the Haryana Government office at Panchkula and resides in Sector 20, Chandigarh. According to Police, the accident took place around 2.15 pm on Wednesday afternoon, when Archana along with her younger brother Rahul and three other children, who also study in the same school, were returning home in the auto-rickshaw.

Archana reportedly fell out of the auto and received serious injuries after she hit her head on the road. She was rushed to Government Multi-Speciality Hospital(GMSH-16) where she died of internal injuries during treatment. Initially, Rampayre, told the police that the accident had taken place after the victim was holding hands with children sitting in an another auto-rickshaw running parallel to his auto. He also claimed that Archana reportedly fell out of while she was holding hand of another child in a separate auto. He had also told the Police that he had told a passerby to call up the police.

Inspector Pargat Singh, Sector 19 police station SHO, told Newsline, “We have arrested the auto driver for causing death due to negligence on the statement of an eyewitness and after talking to the other children sitting in the auto at the time of incident. They told us that the auto driver was driving fast and in a dangerous manner.” The police said that the auto had five children at the time of the accident.
