Kolkata When the body of city-based model Sanchaita Sarkar (24) was recovered by the Lake police from her Jodhpur Gardens fourth floor flat on Monday evening, little did the neighbours know that the man she was living with was married and seeking a divorce from his wife.

A police officer said Sanchaita was having an affair with Saitrayan Sinha, a resident of Mukundapur, and was emotionally unstable due to personal reasons. Though police suspect it to be a case of suicide as her body was found hanging from the ceiling, the body has been sent for a postmortem.

The residents of 191, Jodhpur Gardens remember them as a young quiet duo, who were living their life full with late night parties and hectic work schedules. “The couple had shifted here in November. They were the tenants and I never had direct contact with them. I saw them once or twice walk up the stairs and thought they were a married couple till I heard the news from the media,” said a neighbour on the third floor of the building.

“The girl was upset for sometime. We have questioned some of her friends and the boy she was living with. But since no official complaint has been filed so far we cannot arrest anyone,” said a senior officer of the Lake police station.

Late in the night, her brother came down from Siliguri and lodged a complaint against Sinha for abetment to suicide.
