At Model Town Extension Office, where consumers from areas like Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and others were seen standing in long queues to deposit bills, it was a two-hour long wait before they could even get a manual receipt.
T S Sambhy, a retired PSEB officer and a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar said, “We were standing in the queue since 8.15 a m, way before PSEB offices open and were not even intimidated about the problem till 10.30. Consumers kept on waiting only to be told later that computers were not working.”
While electricity bills can be deposited at a number of easy bill counters located in various parts of the city, the consumers were not aware of any such facility and had hence queued up at PSEB office on the last day of paying the bills.
Sources said the PSEB officers had struggled with the problem yesterday as well when consumers from Phullanwal had come to deposit bills. It was later revealed that the problem was with other billing centres as the networking of computers had failed.
The PSEB often faces this networking problem. When contacted, Harjit Gill, executive engineer at Model Town Extension office claimed that the BSNL officers were intimidated about the problem and it was rectified. He said consumers faced problems today as manual receipts had to be issued.
