New bishop for Delhi Catholic Church

New Delhi The Delhi Catholic Church has a new Auxiliary Bishop. Reverend Fr. Franco Mulakkal is expected to arrive and take charge on January 22. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Rev. Fr. Mulakkal, a priest of the Jalandhar diocese, on Saturday.

Rev. Fr. Mulakkal is currently the International Treasurer cum Animator in the Head Office of Apostolic Union of Clergy and Consulter of Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue in Rome. Hailing originally from Kerala, Fr. Mulakkal was ordained a priest for the Jalandhar diocese in 1990. Except for the few years that he spent in Rome doing a doctorate in Moral Theology, he has spent most of his time working in various parishes and institutions in the Jalandhar diocese. He also headed the department of Theology at the Holy Trinity Regional Major seminary in Jalandhar from 2001 to 2007. Archbishop of Delhi, Vincent M Concessao, said that Fr. Mulakkal is fluent in Punjabi, Malayalam, Hindi, Italian and German.
