The state government has sanctioned a Rs 100-crore plan proposed by the Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (GLADA). Under the plan, a 4.5-km long missing link will be made by GLADA from the Dhandra Road to the Southern bypass which will connect the Ferozepur Road and Pakhowal Road.

For this purpose, about 6,800 acres of land involving 200 houses will have to be acquired.

The project will benefit commuters coming from Ferozepur Road towards Dugri, Doraha, Gill Road thereby reducing the distance by 12 kms.

GLADA has already acquired land to make a 500-metre stretch from Passi Nagar to Dugri.

The owners have also been given other plots while a few atill have to be compensated although they have agreed in priniciple to vacate their houses.

SR Kaler, Additional Commissioner Administrator (ACA) said, “Although we had acquired the land for making the link long ago, it was of no use till the second link was not made. Now that the government has okayed the second project, we will start our survey to acquire land.”

The land for the first missing link was acquired in 2003, but no construction was done following which an NGO, Citizen For Public Causes, had filed a writ petition in the High Court. This petition was quashed last month and the court asked GLADA to continue with both the projects.
