Vadodara Close on the heels of sanctioning funds for the construction of a rail overbridge at Lalbag, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has received a nod from the Centre to construct another at the Kalali railway crossing.

Municipal Commissioner M K Das, who was in Delhi to discuss the detailed project report, said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 45 crore to construct an overbrige to ease the traffic problems at the Kalali crossing.

According to Das, the overbridge will be a four-lane structure to cater to the needs of the increasing traffic.

"Unlike the old overbrige, the new ones are designed to cater to future requirements. The overbridge at the Lalbag crossing, for example, will have capacity to address traffic problems, which could crop up in the future. It has proper width, openings at different ends and facility for pedestrians as well. Similarly, the Kalali overbrige will be wide enough for

smooth movement of traffic," Das said.

The overbridge at Kalali will connect the traffic coming from Atladara and Padra to Vadodara city while avoiding the railway crossing near Akshar Chowk. It will also be crucial for the VMC to get support from the Western Railway authorities, as they will construct the portion above the railway lines.

The work at Vadsar and Jetalpur is still going on and railway authorities are yet to find a contractor who can construct the portion above the railway tracks.
