Dr Kenneth Salyer from the US, the founder chairman of the Foundation, along with his team are on a two-day visit to Lucknow, one of the three cities where such a centre would be set up. Talking to The Indian Express, Dr Salyer said, “After this, we will visit Chennai and Bangalore to evaluate the potential of those cities in regard to carrying out such surgeries.”
The Foundation plans to provide training, infrastructure and scholarships in such centres set up in the country. The three-member delegation maintained that India has great potential in this field, but the final decision will be made at a later stage.
“The purpose of this visit is to evaluate the potential of setting up such centres in India. We will not make any decisions as the board of members of the Foundation will take the final decision in this regard,” Slayer further said.
Later, Dr A K Singh, Head of Plastic Surgery department at CSMMU said that varsity is one of the few medical institutions in the country that provides this facility.
The department caters to at least one such patient every week, he added.
The team also plans to meet the Medical Education Minister and senior government officials.
