Not much has changed since Newsline had reported the matter nearly six months ago. Interestingly, the department officials had then assured of timely action in the current session.

It has been more than a year now that the department had promoted around 26 masters to the post of headmasters and more than 10 lecturers as principals. While these teachers are working in the capacity of their new posts, the salaries paid to them is that of the previous portfolio.

Teachers say that time and again they have brought the matter to the notice of the department but have not received any satisfactory response.

“It has been almost two years that I have been looking after my school as a headmaster. But my salary grades have not yet been revised and my package is still that of a master. The department is denying us our basic right,” said a headmaster of a non-model school.

Another principal added, “The officials at the department are not cooperative enough. Some of the teachers have retired even without receiving their due. If the workload carried by us is that of a principal, the salary disbursed too should be as per the norms.”

The masters elevated as headmasters include: Maninderjit Kaur, Government High School, Sector 24, Jaswant Singh, Government Model High School, Sector 41, and Dharampal, GMHS, Sector 37, among others.

The principals for the new grades include: Anujit Kaur, Government Model Senior Secondary School (Girls), Sector -18, Raviraj Kaur, GMSSS, Sector 35 and Baljinder Singh, Government Senior Secondary School, Maloya among others.
